Makeup Myth #1 - I Don't Need a Budget for Makeup Services

The most common misconception about on-location services by Makeup by Keri Ann

Yes, makeup services, do need to be part of the budget.

If you want an exceptional, personalized service for your special event, you need to know how much you can afford to spend.

Having someone come to your location to do your makeup should cost more than you would pay to go to a department store.

You are paying for someone's time & talent and you are paying them to come to serve you, so you don't have to fight traffic, parking and crowds.

Convenience services are considered a luxury and the pricing should reflect that.

There are also charges you may not expect:
  • Many artists will charge more for airbrush makeup.
  • Many artists will only apply false lashes for an additional fee.
  • Many artists charge for travel.
  • Some artists will only travel on-location for a minimum number of clients.
It doesn't matter if you are needing services for a prom, birthday, wedding, girls night out, or photography sessions, on-location service pricing should be the same for each.

You will also need to be prepared to save your date with a contract and a retainer.

Before you contact artists and get sticker shock, do your homework and research what you are expected to pay at a brick & mortar location.  Once you have a baseline, then you need to calculate how much additional time you will need for traffic, parking, etc. - and don't forget to double that time, because you need to factor in a round trip visit.
