Makeup Tip #20 - Waterproof Mascara Results #1

Last weekend I celebrated a few "firsts":

  • First time asked to participate in an underwater photo shoot.
  • First time to model in front of the camera.
  • First time that my makeup HAD to stay in place while being pool side.

I spent more than a few hours reading blogs, beauty editorials and consumer opinions about waterproof makeup.  I am happy to report that my makeup held up amazingly well and I will blog about my discoveries here, but I am going to start off with a review of waterproof mascara, as I didn't want to end the day with raccoon eyes.

We also had a professional model this weekend and she surprised us by showing up with makeup on.  My choice of products and the model's choice were completely different, but it was a good comparison.

I had every intention of doing before and after makeup shots after every change of clothes, but I got wrapped up in watching and participating in the day's events (remember I am a "behind the scenes" gal), and I forgot (I am not a photographer by nature & documenting my projects is a new habit I must develop).  I promise to have better comparisons next time.

Many sources I found sung the praises of Cover Girl's Marathon Mascara, but Cover Girl discontinued Marathon Mascara and many loyal fans are seeking a replacement product.  Several blogs and consumer guides suggested Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara was very water resistant, so I invested in a tube fully expecting to put it to the test over the weekend.  But then someone on Facebook swore by Mary Kay's Lash Love Waterproof Mascara and I decided to put it to the test.

I wanted nice full lashes, so I decided to apply several layers of mascara.  First I started with the Mary Kay Lash Primer, then I applied Mary Kay Waterproof Mascara and then I added a few coats of the Mary Kay Lash Love Waterproof Mascara.  The results were?....... FANTASTIC!  My mascara made it through the entire day without smudging or running.   Now I did have a few little flecks to remove with a Q-tip, but they brushed right off.

Our model said she uses Cover Girl mascara and liner, but at the time I've written this, I still have not gotten the specific Cover Girl brand names for her makeup.  She said the mascara did flake & run slightly.  It was not obvious that she needed touching up.
