Makeup Tip #9 - How to Prevent Dark Spots

One of my customers called me a few weeks ago in a panic. She had been on a family outing the previous weekend, and after sitting in the sun for a few hours, she noticed that dark blotches had appeared on her face.

I didn't have an explanation as to why this would happened, but I did provide some samples of a few products that were supposed to help fade dark spots.

After a few weeks of fretting over her spots, she finally went to a dermatologist and my customer shared some information with me that you may find beneficial as well.

Apparently, women who are pregnant AND women who are in perimenopause, are more prone to skin discoloration when exposed to the sun.  A good precautionary measure to prevent skin darkening is to make sure you are wearing sunscreen - even when you are not expecting to be in the sun.

Don't forget that you are exposed to the sun when driving and just running daily errands.

There are so many products for the face and body with sunscreen protection in them, it should be easy for you to find the product and spf protection that you need.

Here is a list of a few products that are available with a sunscreen option:

Skin Supplements
Facial Moisturizers for women AND men
Tinted Moisturizers
Foundation Primers
Concealers
Foundations
Mineral Powders
Lip Balms
Lipsticks
Body lotions
Hand creams

The new FDA guidelines have changed, so you may notice that sunscreen packaging has changed.  You may also note that the new buzzword in sunscreen is "broad-spectrum".  This means that the sunscreen protects against UVA & UVB rays when using the required testing methods of the FDA.

My customer didn't plan to be sitting in direct sunlight that day, but she's now a believer in adding a daily moisturizer with spf protection to her routine.   Don't be surprised with new face pigmentation like she was.  Make sunscreen protection part of your morning beauty regimen!
